Control Centre Manager Maarit Uusitalo is responsible for managing the power balance on the main grid and the power system from the office in Käpylä. Uusitalo, who has worked for Fingrid for a long period in several positions, took on the role of control centre manager in March this year.
Risto Uusitalo, who supervises the work on the Forest Line transmission line worksite, spends his days meeting contractors and conducting site inspections in the field. Many of his colleagues are also familiar with Risto’s dog, Ilona, who sometimes accompanies him on-site. This is the first in a new series of articles about “Professional in the spotlight”.
The industry transformation is reflected in the recruiting being done by energy companies. Fingrid still needs electrical engineering experts, but many other educational backgrounds are also suitable for transmission system operator employees.
The end of August was an historic moment at Alajärvi substation, as the last air blast circuit breakers in the main grid were removed from use as part of the substation renewal project. Project Manager Sami Mäki and Expert Heikki Porkka, who planned the transmission outages, have been involved in the different stages of this substation.
